Our service covers extract fans, dMEV, MEV and MVHR systems, with calibrated equipment used to verify airflow rates and support Building Regulations compliance.
For systems that require it, we use a powered flow hood to measure airflow accurately and complete the correct commissioning records for Building Control. The commissioning sheet is part of the Part F guidance, and completed documentation should be supplied to Building Control and the property owner.

More projects are including ventilation commissioning and testing at handover now, which is the right direction. But two things consistently cause problems on test day that are worth knowing about before the system goes in. The first is fan power. Residential ventilation fans need to be sized correctly for the ductwork runs and resistances involved. A fan that looks adequate on paper can fall short when it’s actually installed and working against real-world duct lengths, bends, and fittings. If the fan can’t deliver the required airflow rates under test conditions, it fails. And changing a fan after the system is commissioned and the ceiling is in is not a straightforward job. The second is flexible ductwork. It’s widely used because it’s easy to install, but it introduces significantly more resistance than rigid duct. Long runs of flexible duct, or duct that’s been compressed or kinked during installation, can reduce airflow to the point where the system can’t meet the Part F requirements regardless of how good the fan is. Rigid ductwork where possible, correctly sized fans, and a system designed with testing in mind from the outset. Those three things remove most of the risk before we arrive.
