About Airtightness UK
We understand buildings because we’ve built them.
Before specialising in building performance testing, we worked as carpenters, bricklayers, site managers and general builders. That experience shapes the way we work today: practical advice, clear results and support that makes sense on site.
Airtightness UK provides airtightness testing, ventilation and extractor fan testing, sound insulation testing and specialist fault finding. We help self-builders, developers and Tier 1 contractors understand how their buildings perform and what to do next.

For self-builders, that means straightforward guidance through an unfamiliar process. For site teams and contractors, it means clear communication and testing planned around plots, phases and access.
From building homes to testing them
Airtightness UK was founded by John and Michael. John’s background is in carpentry, residential extensions and individual new-build homes. Mick began as a bricklayer before progressing into large-scale site management.
Between us, we understand construction from foundations to finishing details. We know how trades, materials and junctions come together, and how small gaps or installation problems can affect a building’s performance.
Experience that helps on site
Our construction background helps us investigate problems and explain practical next steps to the people carrying out the work. We are comfortable speaking directly with homeowners, trades, site managers and project teams.
On multi-plot visits, we can test other properties while your team rectifies an issue, then return to the affected plot when it is ready. There is no additional retest charge if we complete that retest while still on site the same day. A pass depends on the property meeting the required standard.
Clear testing and reporting
We combine practical experience with professional testing equipment and straightforward reporting. For ventilation testing, we are members of the NAPIT Competent Person Scheme and use FlowFinder MK2 powered-flow equipment.
